Matt Smith

CEO – Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation

Matt is responsible for the overall leadership of the SIIFC and serves as the primary liaison between project proponents and the SIIFC Board of Directors. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Matt helped lead the team of Government of Saskatchewan officials responsible for the establishment of the SIIFC.

As a proud citizen of the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan, and Executive Director of the Government of Saskatchewan’s Indigenous Economic Development Branch, Matt brings an extensive background of Indigenous engagement and collaboration to his role as CEO. In addition to his role as CEO, Matt leads the team responsible for advancing Indigenous economic development and economic reconciliation in Saskatchewan.

Matt frequently speaks at events across Canada on Indigenous access to capital and economic reconciliation, and has provided advice and support to federal and provincial governments regarding the development of their own loan guarantee programs.

Prior to returning to Canada in 2012, Matt was based in the UK for 13 years and has Masters Degree in Global Governance and Diplomacy from the University of Oxford.
